About Us
Bomber Legends was originally formed from the B-24 Liberator Club. The International B-24 Liberator Club, established in 1968, was dedicated to preserving the history of the B-24 Liberator bomber and its derivatives, including the PB4Y-2 Privateer. Started by the late Robert McGuire, a former USN PB4Y-1 combat photographer, the club captured and preserved the stories and history of the Liberator for over 40 years.
Following Bob's passing in 1993, the B-24 Club was taken over by George, Michelle and Zane Welsh. Although not a B-24 veteran, George has an extensive background in aviation history, including having worked at the San Diego Aerospace Museum for over 14 years and the Flying Leatherneck Aviation Museum for 2 years. George is currently a museum director and curator for the United States Air Force. Michelle's background in computers, design and desktop publishing had proved indispensable in publishing Bomber Legends Magazine and then Bomber Legends eMagazine. Michelle is the co-founder of Macromedia Flash, a software tool used for creating rich interactive web sites.
In 2003, the last issue of Briefing was published, thus ending a production run covering 34 years. A completely new publication was born out of Briefing, named Bomber Legends Magazine. Bomber Legends Magazine covered material from ALL bombers from the Second World War, using the same concepts and ideas from Briefing. Following a successful run of several years, the magazine was terminated, but it was decided to continue production of the calendar. Started in 2002 with a single title (the B-24), there are now three titles, including the B-17, B-24 and the SR-71 Blackbird.
Bomber Legends is dedicated to preserving the memories of the crews and history of the aircraft, from all generations. Included are aircrews, (pilots, gunners, navigators, bombardiers, flight engineers, radio operators), support personnel who maintained these aircraft, as well as those who built the aircraft in factories. We hope that our calendars will continue to help preserve an important part of military aviation history for all to see and enjoy.
